can board members of a non profit organization re-write the bylaws each year to extend there stay on the board

I would like to know if the by laws can be written each year to extend the amount of time you can spend on the board of a non profit organization. example they say that a positione will be held for 2 years, but the board wants to extend it for 4 years. can this be changed each year if possible?
